Community & intimacy
Music, painting and storytelling become shared social experiences, with people contributing as well as observing.
A working website · music · field recordings · the living world
A shared space for listening to music, people, nature, animals, plants, trees, Indigenous stories, lost arts and histories.
↓01 / THE IDEA
The Listening Room begins with music as a social experience—but listening opens into much more.
Field recordings, painting, storytelling, sound, spatial design and the voices of people and the living world come together. It is a place to slow down, notice what surrounds us and make something from what we hear.
02 / THE LISTENING ROOM — EDITION 01
This is the first edition—a beginning, not a finished format.
Small workshops may include listening walks, making field recordings, sharing stories and sitting down to paint. What is gathered can then help shape an installation, performance or public presentation. Each edition can grow through new people, places and ways of listening.
03 / QUESTIONS WE'RE EXPLORING
04 / THE EXPERIENCE
Every edition changes with its artist, site and audience, but the journey remains deliberately human.
Music, painting and storytelling become shared social experiences, with people contributing as well as observing.
The distance between artist and audience is removed. Minimal production; maximum emotional impact.
Light, material and spatial design move with the music. The audience becomes part of the atmosphere.
Reclaimed materials, modular set pieces and thoughtful construction reduce the impact of each edition.
05 / CONSCIOUS PRODUCTION
Immersive cultural experiences can be beautiful without being wasteful. Reused materials and thoughtful construction bring art, music and environmental awareness together.
THE IMPACT RECORD
Every edition will record its carbon emissions and wider environmental impact.
We will document materials, transport, energy, waste and reuse—then publish what we learn. The goal is not to claim perfection, but to create a transparent baseline and reduce the impact with every edition.
06 / WHAT'S NEXT?
Everyone is an artist—you only need the space to pause and see what you want to create. The project currently begins with a collective of architects exploring how creative practice can help shape a better world, but it is a platform for all. Ideas and collaborations from artists, musicians, storytellers, communities, researchers and curious listeners are welcome.
